You know that little voice in your head that says, “Maybe later… probably not… what if I fail?” That’s fear. It shows up in the small stuff, the big stuff, and everything in between. And here’s the thing: fear isn’t there to stop you. It’s there to point you toward the growth, freedom, or opportunity you’re craving.
Bold moves aren’t about being fearless. They’re about showing up despite the fear. About leaning into that knot in your stomach and taking action anyway.
Why fear matters
Fear is actually a compass. That hesitation, that anxiety, that “I’m not sure I can”—it’s all pointing to the places that will stretch you, push you, and change you. The moments that scare us are almost always the moments that matter most.
Boldness isn’t absence of doubt
Trust me, I get it. Taking action while scared is messy. You’ll second-guess yourself. You’ll feel like you’re not ready. But here’s the truth: those doubts don’t go away. Boldness is deciding to move forward anyway. To speak up. To walk through a door you’ve been avoiding. To try—even if you don’t know exactly how it’s going to turn out.
My leap into the unknown
I know this because I’ve lived it. Back in 2013, I was working a safe, predictable 9-to-5. Comfortable? Sure. Fulfilled? Not really. Pole dance had changed my life—my body, my mindset, my sense of freedom from judgment—and I wanted other women to feel that same transformation.
Opening Studio Spin, my own pole dance studio, felt terrifying. Fitness studios are notoriously tough to keep afloat, (statistically, 81% of fitness studios fail within their first year.) And I was opening mine in the middle of Amish country! But the pull to create, to serve, to share what I’d learned, was stronger than the fear.
So I took the leap. And eleven years later, that scary step turned into a thriving studio, a community of women changing their lives, and one of the most rewarding chapters of my life.
Your turn
This week, notice where fear is whispering in your own life. What’s one tiny move you can take toward what you want, even if it scares you? Send the message. Make the call. Speak your truth. Take that first step. It doesn’t have to be huge. It just has to be forward.
Every time you take a step, you’re proving something to yourself: that you can handle uncertainty. That you can trust yourself. That fear doesn’t get the final say.
